Technology is a catalyst

It is a critical issue in our education system nowadays when talking about technology.
When I google the importance of technology to be used in teaching and learning in classroom,I found this article.
Here I only attach some important points to remind me what should I do in dealing with technology..

Teachers
Representatives of appropriate organizations also have created technology standards for teachers. The following are teacher standards modified from the National Educational Technology Standards for Teachers. They are especially relevant for teachers considering the following technology action options:
  • Teachers understand and support the importance of students learning to use educational technology as an important component of their preparation for further education, work, and life in general.
  • Teachers demonstrate their support of technology use by developing their own skills, knowledge, and strategies necessary to model effective uses of technology.
  • Teachers learn and use effective ways to integrate technology into their curriculum and use technology in ways that enhance instructional opportunities and successes for all students.
  • Teachers learn uses of technology that provide assessment feedback to parents, students, and the teacher about how well the student is learning, and then use that data to improve learning productivity.
  • Teachers understand and instill into their students the social ethical, legal and human issues surrounding the uses of technology
Students
Student standards have been developed by the International Society for Technology (ISTE), which recommends students' use of technology should reflect the following skills and operations:
  • Basic operations and concepts
    • Students demonstrate a sound understanding of the nature and operation of technology systems.
    • Students are proficient in the use of technology.
  • Social, ethical, and human issues
    • Students understand the ethical, cultural, and societal issues related to technology.
    • Students practice responsible use of technology systems, information, and software.
    • Students develop positive attitudes toward technology uses that support lifelong learning, collaboration, personal pursuits, and productivity.
  • Technology productivity tools
    • Students use technology tools to enhance learning, increase productivity, and promote creativity.
    • Students use productivity tools to collaborate in constructing technology-enhanced models, prepare publications, and produce other creative works.
  • Technology communications tools
    • Students use telecommunications to collaborate, publish, and interact with peers, experts, and other audiences.
    • Students use a variety of media and formats to communicate information and ideas effectively to multiple audiences.
  • Technology research tools
    • Students use technology to locate, evaluate, and collect information from a variety of sources.
    • Students use technology tools to process data and report results.
    • Students evaluate and select new information resources and technological innovations based on the appropriateness for specific tasks.
  • Technology problem-solving and decision-making tools
    • Students use technology resources for solving problems and making informed decisions.
    • Students employ technology in the development of strategies for solving problems in the real world.
Parents
The following are recommendations of what skills, knowledge, and dispositions parents are expected to develop in terms of technology use :

  • Parents should understand the importance, benefits, and issues associated with informational uses of technology in schools.
  • Parents share with their children the importance and concerns they have about the uses of technology.
  • Parents are involved in school activities, including helping students become more successful users of technology.
  • Parents advocate for better educational opportunities for their children, including better access and use of technology.
  • Parents model and provide guidance to quality uses of technology outside of school, including adhering to copyright laws and understanding the benefits and challenges of the vast and diverse materials available on the Internet.

Teaching is changing,
it becoming a more difficult job because of increasingly expectations.
Therefore,we must expect the students needs as we expect them to be with us along the learning process.

    My new 'home'




    I am trying to create my new own website and officially, I got the title of "BEGINNER".hihi
    The website is still under construction.Still trying to explore and make it creative and fun as I can.
    It is my project with my coursemate,Khatijah @ TJ.
    When it done,we are going to welcome u all to our home sweet home.Even Dr Shahul ask us to do only 2 pages,the home will live entire my life of being a teacher.InsyaAllah  ^_^V

    Our profession creates other professions

    Yup.That's the truth.Teaching profession creates other professions which we can't  even imagine what the professions are.

    We as a teacher teach our students bout some knowledge.And we do learn something at the same time.
    We evolve with the time,therefore the way we teach can't be the same.
    We teach skills to our students and the skills give them direction to learn more.

    It's not a crime to use technologies in teaching.Yes,it isn't!

    Today's notes is about using Search Engine to find information in the internet.
    We don't have to teach all the resources that come out,but guide the students by giving some keyword or key point relevan to the topic.

    Could the information be wrong in the first place?

    Yes.It could be.
    Check out the reliable resources--> is the writer expert in that field?Education background?Does the information is updated?

    Who is to be blamed??

    Last nite,my housemate,Suria share with us what her lecturer of Teaching Method in Mathematics told them in class.
    One of the lecturer's master student did a research on what cause math teacher feel stress in teaching math subject.One of the causes is that the students can't understand the question given or they misunderstood the question.
    Lets see how they did..(u might laugh as i did.hihi)




    This is not only happen in Maths,but in other subject too..so funny creative they are..



    Are they too creative or we teacher who didn't teach well?? :)

    Know your students' ability

    Plan the lesson depending on your students' ability
    cause they are multiple intelligence,
    and they have different cognitive levels.

    And, be aware of the environment of the topics.Not all technologies and teaching methods can be apply for each topics.
    It's you who make it creative,fun and easy.

    And this is the plan..





    8th October 2010

    I was given a task to plan how i am going to teach Carbon Cycle in my future class.
    After having a discussion with my group member, Tija and Kak Reen, lets check out our plan!! ^o^

    Beginning : (Induction set)


    In the beginning of the class, I will ask one of my students to turn of the fan (or aircond).
    Show some video of natural phenomena ( eg : volcanic eruption etc)
    Ask some questions : 1) What are the phenomena that u watch just now?
                                     2) What cause them to happen? or What are the consequences of these phenomena?

    Content :


    Before go into detail,then I ask them what do you feel when the fan is turn off?Their answer will relate to the topic which is one the effect of carbon cycle -cause the green house effect make we feel hot.

    Then, I explain the topic by using powerpoint presentation ,included some pictures/diagram


    End of class : (Conclusion/Summary)

    Computer-based technology

    Last friday,my classmate Suria and Mila present this topic.Actually we are familiar to what they have presented.But we do not realize that those things are very important in our society nowadays.For example,they talk about computer,printer,moniter and so on which we use everyday.We communicate through all these things,Facebooking,Yahoo Messenger.

    However,there are some part that we need to be alert.Such as, in Malaysia some power supply have a switch to change betweeen 250V and 115V.And this power supply is different when we use computer in other country,so that it can support our computer. 

    After the presentation,it is much help me as a teacher to be,to apply all those technology to be used in my lesson.Compare to the old technology,now we have PDA,laptop which is much smaller than the old computer.Students will enjoy the lesson,and this definitely make them to be more creative when they explore those technology.

    But,i need to remind myself always that i must go through all this new technology,be updated and try to make myself familiar about the function and how to use them.I am sure,this will make me easier in the future.
